Impact of Ataturk's reforms

Economically

The yearly average growth rate grew to 9.12% (quite high rate based on one of the reasons of war of independence and the great depression) during the first phase of Ataturk's period under liberal economic regime.

One of his reform was separating military from politics. After Ataturk's death, Inonu was the next prime minister who served the country very well and knew the hardships that country had to face during war of independence and therefore was determined to keep Turkey out of another war (world war II). And because Turkey was still rebuilding, recovering and needed financial aid and also a guarantee that US and UK will stand beside Turkey in Soviet invasion. Therefore Turkey had to give up its principle of neutrality and this joined UN and became a member of NATO in 1952. Turkey also applied for EEC membership under the leadership of DP (Democratic Party). They made changes in constitution later in 1950 which is called new constitution which included political changes and planned economic developments.

Turkish women were given many rights including the right to hold offices. Therefore Turkish women live in the environment far more supportive than the woman in most of the middle Eastern countries.
